The Basics: Where'd you grow up? What you do for work?

I grew-up on Cape Cod, not to be confused with summering on Cape Cod, which means lots of fresh fish! And lots of fish fry! I worked in retail buying and marketing in NYC before taking a job with a mobile retail software company. I have a propensity for drama and am known to spontaneously burst into showtunes, which I realize can be irritating to those who don't think life is one big musical.

When did you first start cooking?

A little when I was in college but mostly first year out of college, living in NYC, trying not to spend the fortune I wasn't making. Learning to cook has been a continuous experiment in making yummy and yucky things and learning from the victories as well as the meals that go straight into the trash. I often go ingredient overboard and make stuff that tastes just horrible.

What is your favorite dish to make? To eat?

What I love to make changes weekly. Right now, I am addicted to making thin crust pizzas topped with tons of veggies (low on the carbs, big on the veggies!). I went through a meatball phase. My most impressive dish I make is a strawberry chessecake with graham cracker crust. My favorite thing to eat is homemade pasta with bolognese. I don't know how to make homemade pasta (yet!), but I absolutely cannot resist when it's on a menu - lamb bolognese with mint, oxtail ragu, the list goes on.

Culinary "EVEREST"?

That would be putting on Thanksgiving. My mom has it down to an art with a fleet of aunts to help. I'm lucky if I'm allowed to open cans of chicken broth.

Best advice for new-to-the-kitchen cooks?

Just have fun and keep it simple until you take off the training wheels. I make so many mistakes in the kitchen but that's how you learn - I've crucified veggies in the oven on several occasions and many times made food that went straight into the trash. You can't be afraid to go Bridget-Jones style and make blue string soup every once in a while. Challenge yourself once a month NOT to go out and buy more ingredients but to create a meal from what you already have in your kitchen.

Kimface: I love you. Seriously. Good to have you back in my life even if it's just on my computer and not real. Congrats on your blog. It's adorbs. I hope they buy the movie rights and you get famous. xo.

I will be waiting for my invite. I can't cook, but I most definitely can eat!
